Philadelphia Cherry Blossoms
A perfect Easter Sunday in Philly.
There are not enough feelings to talk about the happiness spring brings to us all. Throughout history, traditions, and cultures, the joy of spring is transcendent. From cultures having their new years in the springtime, or festivals such as Easter or Spring to correspond with springtime, the joy of winter being over is universal.
This video was shot in spring 2024. My wife’s aunt from Germany was staying with us as she visited the US. As gracious hosts, we showed her the best that Delaware and New Jersey offered. This video corresponds with our trip to Philadelphia.
It was Easter Sunday, and we drove up to Life City Church located in South Philadelphia. The church has a modern approach, where it is more like a rock concert than letting everyone join in on the choir. While I think it is a novel approach, the next time I attend a church like that, I will need to have earplugs as it just got too loud. That is not a knock at the church; I just think I have sensitive hearing and do not like volumes that get too loud. It is probably why I never yell, or raise my voice.
The church was gracious enough to let us attend, and the preacher was a very kind man. I would attend if it weren’t an hour away, and they sang choir songs, but you cannot have everything. Anyhow, we did have our Easter photo taken by the church after we left, something I think was very innovative by the church.
I think all religious houses are important, and I might speak on that in another video. I do believe all religions teach the same morals, and we all climb the same mountain, but just take different paths. I also believe they are important as a place of community. More on that in the future.
After church, we attended the Primrose Diner, just about a block from the church. It is a classic American diner that I would recommend to anyone who is in South Philly. Then we drove to West Fairmount Park, the home of the cherry blossoms in Philadelphia.
As I say in the video, Philadelphia is not known for its parks and cherry blossoms. Hell, even Newark (Delaware, not New Jersey) has cherry blossoms. As you can see, the park was packed, and it was lucky we could get parking. We did try to get tickets to the Shofuso Japanese Cultural Center, but they were sadly sold out, and I should have bought them well ahead of time.
Anyhow, the park was gorgeous. This video cannot do justice to how beautiful it was to walk down the alley. Granted, the park was packed, it was hard to find parking, and almost everyone was getting their social media filled up with pictures they were taking there.
So I am presenting my little Philadelphia Cherry Blossom video to you. Yes, I filmed it over a year ago, and now, working with professional video software, I try to make a video that maybe my family will enjoy. Though I am sure some will complain they themselves are not in the video, ha.
One last thing, it was great to have our aunt visit, and we hope to host more family members in the future. We are always glad to host family members who love to talk and explore.
