Valley Garden Park
A fall day in Delaware.
The one thing I think most Midwesteners, especially on the western side (Tornado Alley), wouldn’t understand is the number of trees on the East Coast. When we learn about the East Coast and view images, all we see are concrete buildings with very little green. But coming to live in Delaware, you become in awe of the number of trees that litter the Mid-Atlantic.
The video from this day is from a perfect November day. Stable weather is another thing hard to imagine for people who have only lived in the Midwest. In the Midwest, it is very common for days or hours to change violently in temperature. On the East Coast, it is a gradual change from one day to the next. There isn’t a day where it is 80 degrees and sunny, and the next day you have 2 feet of snow.
There are also extremes of weather. The Midwest weather can be extreme on both ends, with very hot summers and very cold winters. Delaware and much of the East Coast have fewer extremes, where most days are under 90 degrees and snow is rare.
That being said, it was a perfect weekend day to go visit Valley Garden Park. I was interested in the park because I had seen people sitting by the little pond driving down the curvy road seen at the end of the video. There are many different parks in the region, connected through a series of small winding roads. Actually, the entire area should be seen by anyone who appreciates nature when fall blossoms.
We came to the park during the morning, and even in the early hours, families and parties were already taking place. I try not to record families in parks, unlike many of the current generation of people. I always find it weird how the newer generation loves recording people at their worst moments and putting them on YouTube for the shock value. It is something I could never agree on.
Anyhow, after this video, we went to Charcoal Pit, one of the best restaurants in Wilmington. If you go to the original one, you can see what it looked like when it was built, as it hasn’t changed at all. It is like walking into a 50s dinner that only served burgers, fries, and shakes. That is probably going to be one of the places I will miss most when I leave Delaware. The days are counting down till we move back to the Midwest, though we hope to live in the region again soon.
I will always love Delaware, or the coastal living. I didn’t learn to sail, like I had planned, but there is still plenty of time for that. Anyhow, I have lots to work on, and this Sunday post is probably not telling much of a story. As always, thank you for reading, and until next time, stay classy.
