About Me

Hello, and welcome. You have found the website of Michael Rothfuss. If you don’t know me, here are a few details. First, I am a happily married man who has the greatest wife. We have watched movies, read books, traveled, and made long-distance moves together.

I have my MPA from the seventh-oldest university in America, the University of Delaware (established in 1743). Go Blue Hens! Before attending UD, I did my undergraduate work at three different institutions. This includes the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, the University of Nebraska at Omaha, and Metropolitan Community College in Omaha. I have learned a lot at each place, as each has been a stepping stone in my life. Even though I may be done with formal education, I never stop learning. I have always valued learning and try to stay curious.

In my spare time, I love to read, travel, and create travel videos for my family. I currently love using small cameras, especially film cameras. For the past two years, I have taken my Voigtlander Bessa R2 across the globe. I just love the feeling of getting pictures back a few weeks after traveling. It reminds me of my younger days when all pictures were like that.

When not working on cataloging photographs or creating videos, I can be found reading. I try to read about four books a month if time permits. Some recent favorites include The Ministry of Time by Kaliane Bradley, The Thursday Murder Club (series) by Richard Osman, The Ministry of Utmost Happiness by Arundhati Roy, and The Humans by Matt Haig. I have many other favorite books, but those were my most recent favorites.

Lastly, I have worked in the public sector for over the past decade. I am the Cost Accounting Manager at the University of Delaware. In my role, I have been able to cut hundreds of labor hours from reports with the use of VBA and Microsoft Power tools. The MPA and Poli Sci helped me grow as a leader and systems thinker. Accounting trained me to value precision and accuracy. In my role, I have not only improved the previous processes, but I have cleaned up the old data, while fostering an environment where my team can grow. I have also had experience working as an administrator at the State of Nebraska, after being promoted from an analyst. And before that, I worked at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln as an accountant in their IT department.

I also write occasional essays on memory, family, work, and ordinary life.
